Producers
If you want to produce the play in your area, contact us at onefamilyingaza@gmail.com, and we will send you a script and the slideshow.
Below are some guidelines/suggestions designed to help those interested in producing the play.
Stage directions: When lights go out, before the play begins, there is an audio of drones and explosions that plays. After the last explosiion, Friend from Afar enters and the slideshow begins. Lighting: the floor lamp next to the person reading Yasser’s part is on all the time. The newscaster turns his/her lamp on and off. Friend from Afar turns light on and leaves it on. Photos embedded in the script are markers for where the slide show that runs throughout might be placed.
Equipment / materials / furniture: projector to project 26 slides during the play and a 3–minute video at the end (alternative: photos blown up on poster board) / large screen or wall, 3-4 ft square minimum / 3 chairs for readers / side table with lamp, stack of newspapers, box of tissues for Friend from Afar / desk with desk lamp for Newscaster / sign: News Anchor / floor lamp for Yasser/ registration - donation – food table: 1-2 folding tables and 2 chairs for greeters, clipboard with registration forms and pens / Venue: chairs for audience. In the Washington performance, they hung a blue tarp behind Yasser to represent a tent.
Promotion and media materials: Sample Flyer, Sample Press Release, Sample Poster
Because one of the objectives of the play is to continue the conversation and motivate action, we have put together 12 discussion topics and suggest that you hand them out and encourage your audience to form or join a community action group and become an active part in the ongoing discussions/actions that support an end to genocide and peace in Gaza.
Offer an access point to the website (onefamilyingaza.com) where findings, ideas, recommendations and resources can be collected and shared, and where a supportive network can be created.
Hand out lists of local organizations, actions, reading and film suggestions.
IMPORTANT: Hold a Q&A session at the end of the play. The playwright would be happy to attend if geographically possible, or she can join you via Zoom; however, anyone putting on this play is likely able to facilitate an after-performance discussion.
